How Google Tango works

Google’s Tango, formerly called as Project Tango, is a new feature that lets you experience both Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in the real world. Yes, it’s complex to understand, and if you’re already aware of Microsoft HoloLens, there you go, it’s a simplified version of HoloLens, but in a phone.

This technology will be available on the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, which is due in September. The phone packs in four cameras. There’s an 8 MP front-facing camera, a 16 MP main camera on the rear, as well as a depth-sensing infrared camera and a motion tracking camera – also on the back. The two cameras on the back see the world in 3D. That’s how it actually works.

You can place virtual dominos on top of your real-world table, as if they only existed in an alternate reality you can see through the window of your phone.
