Philips SpeechAir

Philips has a new product for its consumers called the SpeechAirAndroid-powered digital voice recorder. The device is developed by Speech Processing Solutions and the company isn’t revealing the pricing of the recorder just yet, but the voice recorder will be available for purchase from the company’s local retail distributors.

The SpeechAir is merely a makeover of a smartphone that boasts a 4-inch 480 p touchscreen display with Gorilla Glass protection. On the rear, there’s a 5MP camera to read bar codes. It is powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, coupled with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. Running customized version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat, SpeechAir comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/b/n, Micro-USB, 3.5mm audio jack, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity options.

The device comprises three microphones – each performs different tasks. There’s a 360-degree microphone, a directional microphone and a MEMS microphone for making VoIP calls. The device uses 256-bit AES encryption for recording voices. It supports remote control as well. “When we developed Philips SpeechAir we thought of busy professionals who frequently travel or work remotely,” said Brauner. “Thanks to the built-in functions, users don’t need to wait until they’re back in the office to transfer their data.”
