google april fool jokes

Google fell into a trap later the day by launching a new feature for Gmail users called Mic Drop – Google’s yet another April Fool’s Day joke.  This feature added an additional “send” button on the web interface, letting Gmail users to mute any email conversation instantly by “dropping the mic”.

Let’s put it as Google says, “Simply reply to any email using the new ‘Send + Mic Drop’ button. Everyone will get your message, but that’s the last you’ll ever hear about it. Yes, even if folks try to respond, you won’t see it.”

After triggering the ‘mic drop’ button, a humorous GIF of a mic-dropping minion would be added at the top of the email and the conversation was muted, then users won’t get any further notifications or email from the recipient.

After receiving backlash from users, Google pulled the trigger down, just hours after it was launched. Some of them accidentally insulted their friends, colleges, lost jobs and so on. “Well, it looks like we pranked ourselves this year,” Google said in a statement. “Due to a bug, the Mic Drop feature inadvertently caused more headaches than laughs. We’re truly sorry. The feature has been turned off. If you are still seeing it, please reload your Gmail page.”

Like all jokes on April Fools’ Day, Google’s Fools’ jokes are usually way better than others, but this year they failed apparently. Let’s hope, they won’t try any similar hilarious gags next year.
