Acer Launches the World’s first Laptop with 802.11ad WiFi

    Despite bringing new windows powered laptops, Acer is refreshing the existing lineup with new features and hardware. Of them, TravelMate P648 is one of the devices that gets some enhancements that its predecessor. The TravelMate is specially designed or business people and it comes with one significant feature that supports 802.11ad wireless. Also known as WiGig, it’s a short-distance WiFi standard that supports speeds of up to 4.6Gbps. The TravelMate P648 features one of Qualcomm’s tri-band Atheros chips, which uses 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 60GHz radios to support a range of networks.

    The Windows 10 based notebook comes with several options of sixth generation Intel processors – the Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7. The notebook features a 14-inch display with resolution option up to 1080p. It can support up to NVIDIA GeForce 940M graphics with 2GB VRAM along with 4GB DDR4 RAM that can be upgraded to 20GB. It comes with either a 1TB hard drive or a 512GB SSD. Weighing 1.7kg, the laptop is 0.83-inch thin and features an HDR HD webcam. NFC connectivity is also included.

    Since this is to be the first notebook to support 802.11ad, there’s not much you can do with it right now. You can only experience its full potential only when other companies bring a lot of compatible devices.
