VK Sasikala Chief Minister Tamil Nadu

VK Sasikala, general secretary of AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) was unanimously elected as the party’s Legislature leader at general meeting held in Chennai today. The current Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam submitted his resignation letter to the party chief, Sasikala. Then, they elected Sasikala as the Legislature leader of the party, and she will officially swear as the CM of the state soon.

A meeting was called at the party headquarters today where all MLAs attended the meeting. Senior MLAs and Ministers including OPS met Sasikala at the Veda Nilayam in Poes Garden. After the meeting, it was announced that Sasikala was elected the party legislature leader and she will become the Chief Minister of the State soon.

A couple of days ago, three top bureaucrats, who were the advisors of late Jayalalithaa, were asked to resign from their post. The bureaucrats, including Sheela Balakrishnan, KN Venkataramanan and Shanta Sheela Nair were considered to have moved into the OPS camp after Jayalalithaa’s death.

Sasikala has been a close associate of J Jayalalithaa for over 30 years who lived with her for over a decade. The Maanargudi clan who had never showed off their face until Jayalalithaa’s death took over the control of the party officially and showed off their face in public meetings. They had their significant influence in AIADMK and Tamil Nadu politics for several years.

She became the party general secretary on December 31, 2016. She will be the third woman chief minister in the history of Tamil Nadu politics after Janaki Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa.
