Dipa Karmakar and Her BMW: Dipa Karmakar, the first ever Indian Gymnast to participate in the Olympics rose to fame overnight, has decided to return her BMW which was awarded by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
It’s shocking to learn Dipa’s decision on returning the car, however, on investing the actual reason for her decision makes sense. It is because of the maintenance issues, she is going to return the car to the original sponsor V Chamundeswaranath, president of the Hyderabad Badminton Association.
According to sources, Dipa’s coach said, “There are two main reasons behind it. First, there is no BMW service center in Agartala and secondly, the roads are not suitable to drive a posh car such as this.” Also, there are no eligible drivers in the town to drive the car. The decision was taken by her and her family collectively.
Dipa Karmakar was presented a luxurious BMW X1 sedan by Sachin Tendulkar along with Sakshi Malik, PV Sindhu and her coach Pullela Gopichand at a function in Hyderabad organised by the Badminton Association of Hyderabad. The cars were sponsored by Hyderabad Badminton Association’s president V Chamundeshwarnath.
Sources say that she had already discussed with Chamundeshwarnath about her decision, and he suggested giving her the equivalent amount of the car.
Dipa Karmakar is currently busy in training as she will be competing in Challenger Cup which is going to happen in Germany. The Gymnastics Federation of India, however, said that she can only participate if India can have a six member team.
