It wasn’t quite a normal day for Thala fans yesterday as they witnessed the release of Ajith’s most anticipated movie of the year, Vivegam. The film opened to a phenomenal response amidst fanfare with over 95% occupancy in theatres on Friday. Vivegam is already shattering the box-office records and takes lead at several film circuits.
Ajith has once again proved that he is truly the king of openings with his espionage thriller with the opening day box office collection grossed Rs 16.58 crore (approx) in Tamil Nadu, among the others circuits when it comes to Tamil films. Vivegam saw a tremendous opening at all centres in Chennai, collected Rs 1.21 crore beating Kabali’s opening day record of Rs. 1.12 crore, taking number one spot at Chennai box office.
The film is said to have made over Rs 1.5 core in Coimbatore, among the most important centres in Tamil Nadu. Despite mixed reviews, the film is running exceptionally well across all centres in the state, being a government holiday today. Though negativity about the film is being spread on social media platforms, the film stands strong on its second day, which is expected to rake in spectacular numbers at the box office.
Given that Ajith has a massive fan following in Karnataka next to Tamil Nadu, the film has made Rs 3.75 crore on its opening day, which is his best till date. Vivegam was also very well received in neighboring states of Kerala and Telugu Sates (AP/TG). The film raked in Rs 2.87 crore in Kerala while the Telugu states share is said to be over Rs. 1.5 crore. The film finished at no.2 in Hyderabad on Friday, which opened at no.4 on Thursday.
In the United States, which is not a big market for the actor, the film has managed $245K on Thursday premiers beating Veeram’s lifetime box office collections to become his 4th highest. Vivegam is also doing great in France as well, registered 3000 entries to become all-time best for a Tamil film yet.
According to trade estimates, Vivegam is expected to mint around Rs 25 crore net in worldwide box office, which is Ajith’s best opening till date. The film was released in more than 3000 screens worldwide and a solo release in Tamil Nadu. The film has received a traffic response across the domestic and international arena on day one.
