Superstar Rajinikanth to reprise Tamil don Mirza Haji Mastan in Thalaivar161

Superstar Rajinikanth fans have got exciting news to celebrate as the actor is all set to start his new project with director Pa Ranjith. The most talked venture on social media has finally got its life as pre-production works for the film was completed recently and the team will likely go on for shooting soon.

The yet-untitled film is being called Thalaivar161 for the time being. Thalaivar is quite impressed with the story, where he will play the real life character of Tamil don Mirza Haji Mastan, who was called by Sultan Mirza. Rajinikanth is again teaming up with Pa Ranjith, whom he worked with him in Kabali, will be directing him for the second time.

Thalaivar161 will be much similar Kabali, where he showcased the plight of Malaysian Tamils based on real life incidents and this film will shed light on Mumbai Tamils and their sufferings. Mirza Haji Mastan, though was a don by profession, was praised as people’s leader and a friend of Varadarajan Mudaliar, a Tamil don.

Born as Tamil Muslim in Pannaikulam, Tamil Nadu, Haji Mastan was raised in poor family but he always wanted to make big things so that he can lead a luxury life. He made fortune in no time and was best known for smuggling, films financing and real estate business among others. He lived in Mumbai and fluent in Tamil who later became a stylish icon of South Mumbai for the way he dressed up.

If you recall, Mani Ratnam directed Kamal Haasan in Nayagan, which was based on real life character of Varadarajan Mudaliar, a close associate of Haji Mastan. The first look poster of Thalaivar161 is expected to be unveiled before the movie goes on floors. The film will be produced by his son-in-law Dhanush under his own banner Wunderbar Films.

Kabali was declared a box office hit which changed the way of his usual movies having minimal commercial factors. Pa Ranjith revealed in an interview that the commercial elements were forced into the film just to satisfy his fans. With that said, there won’t be any commercial things in Thalaivar161, and fans should brace themselves for raw gritty treatment.
