Manchu Lakshmi Reveals Why She Rejected Shivagami Role in Baahubali

Baahubali: The Beginning is one of my favorite movies and I still adore the character of Shivagami played by Ramya Krishnan.

The 46–year-old actress is well acclaimed for her bold performance and her rugged accent. She rose to fame after her mind-blowing performance in Padayappa movie as Neelambari.

In Baahubali: The Beginning, she even went a step forward and delivered ravishing performance. She played the role of Shivagami the Rajamata, who is the mother of Bhallala Deva and caretaker of Amarendra Bahubali. She was praised for her vigorous acting. She ruled the kingdom with the help of Kattapa.

There were a lot of speculations that Ramya Krishnan wasn’t the first choice of SS Rajamouli. He first approached Sridevi and she was not able to get into the plot due to salary issues. He also approached several top stars of the industry before he finalized Ramya Krishnan for the role.

One of them is Manchu Lakshmi, yet she neglected to do the role of Shivagami in Baahubali: The Beginning. She revealed it by herself in a TV talk show ‘Alitho Saradaga’ on ETV channel.

When she was asked ‘why she rejected the role in Baahubali,’ she replied with a smile, “t was Prakash Kovelamudi who spoke to me about playing this role and I spoke to Rajamouli as well. The only thought that was running through my mind was, How can I play the role of Prabhas and Rana’s mother? I mean, just look at him! (laughs) So, I just said ‘no’ to the film and I have absolutely no regrets for doing that.”
