Katy Perry faces backlash after posting an image of Goddess Kali on Instagram

Pop singer Katy Perry has now come under fire after posting an image of Hindu Goddess Kali to express her feeling on Instagram. The photograph didn’t go well among her Indian fans triggering backlash against her for disrespecting Indian culture.

The 32-year-old ‘Kissed A Girl’ singer posted an photograph of Goddess Kali with a caption ‘current mood’ on Instagram on Tuesday. The image turned hatred for her among some of her Indian followers, who has 63.5 million Instagram followers. The post triggered comments war, receiving around 13k comments and counting, most of them claimed she disrespects the Indian culture.

Please Katy!! Don’t use such type of Indian God’s and Goddess’ pics to represent our mood..Do you know what this pic means and what’s the story behind it?,’ one follower wrote.

“This is a little offensive to the Hindu community because the meaning behind this photo and god symbolises something different. Not sure what you intended it for, but its supposed to symbolise strength, and courage,” another user posted.

Another said: ‘How ridiculous this? You don’t have permission to upload a picture of our goddess on this f**king social media and embarrassing our culture.’

Though Katy Perry was strongly criticized for her post, some have defended her as well. “Ma’am please don’t listen to the hatred…some of us have made their habit of getting offended… it has become a national past time,” a follower said. “I really appreciate your interest regarding Hindu religion. Loads of love from India.”

It seems she is fond of Indian culture, as she married her now ex-husband, comedian Russell Brand, in 2010 in Rajasthan in a traditional Indian marriage ceremony. Recently, Perry has opened up her struggle in following religion as she was raised in a strict Christian family that she has to go to church thrice in a week.

“I’m not Buddhist, I’m not Hindu, I’m not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God. I pray all the time—for self-control, for humility. There’s a lot of gratitude in it. Just saying ‘thank you’ sometimes is better than asking for things,” Katy Perry said.
