Dhanush begins shooting for his Hollywood debut The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir
Actor Dhanush, who is all set to venture into international arena, has begun shooting for his Hollywood debut “The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir” directed by “Starbuck” fame Ken Scott. The film has got Oscar-nominated actors Berenice Bejo (The Artist), Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction) and Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips) onboard among others.
With an ambitious English title, the film is based on Romain Puértolas’ bestselling debut novel, “The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe,” released in 2014 and was translated into 35 languages. Indian National award-winning actor will essay Ajatashatru Oghash Rathod, a fakir who cheats people of his village in Rajasthan into believing that he possesses special powers, making them to pay him to fly to Paris to buy a bed of nails from an Ikea store.
Initial shoot of the film will happen in Mumbai and then in Paris, Brussels, and Rome. Despite his recent movies didn’t do well at the box office or impress people, he has landed himself into a big project that could explore his acting potential, which will allow him to settle on different verticals. Being a next door actor, he has given several hits in Tamil as an actor or as a producer either. With this movie he will emerge as an international actor.
“The book was a huge success. It was sold in 36 countries. It’s a bestseller. There’s many aspects that interested me, there’s obviously comedy, a lot of comedy, some very poetic moments. It’s the story of this magician/thief who grew up in this small neighborhood in Mumbai, India, he sets sail on this journey of self-discovery throughout Europe,” said Scott.
Erin Moriarty, Laurent Lafitte, Abel Jafri, and Seema Biswas also star in the movie. This adventure-fantasy film is produced by Luc Bossi and Jaime Mateus-Tique at Brio Films and Vamonos Films. TF1 Studios, La Belle Company, Aleph Motion Pictures, Scope Pictures, and Little Red Car are co-producing. “Extraordinary Journey” has already been picked up by SquareOne in Germany. La Belle Company will release the movie in France. The film is expected to release in multiple languages.
Apart from a Hollywood film, Dhanush has a bunch of films under his belt with some looking forward for their release. He is also producing his father-in-law Rajinikanth’s film, directed by Pa. Ranjith, which has been the talk of k-town. Though his family members are associated with cinema industry in one or the other way, he has come up to this level on his own leg. We wishing him good luck for his future ventures.
