As a part of Elon Musk’s ambitions to power the world with sustainable energy, Tesla will be unveiling the fully electric powered tractor-trailer dubbed Tesla Semi Truck in September 2017. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has taken to twitter to announce the status of two mega project, one being the Semi Truck and the other is pickup truck, which will take up to 18 months, at least, arrive in the US.

He said that the electric powertrain will be “seriously next level” and congratulated the Semi Truck team for doing an “amazing job”. The electric powered semi truck in still in the development process and when the reveals its heavy-duty truck in September, it would be a huge breakthrough in trucking industry. The company is pushing the autonomous driving technology ahead of its passenger cars Autopilot feature. Though the semi truck will be powered by autonomous driving technology, it will still need drivers to present in the cabin at least for few years now.
The biggest challenge in the semi truck will be the range and cost and it is interesting to know how Tesla keeps under the belt. It will eventually have bigger battery packs and since it’s a trailer, there will be lot of space to hide these packs, however, the company will make some significant improvements with the autonomous truck. The semi truck, apparently, will equip the most powerful and high energy efficient powertrain.
Tesla semi truck will face some serious competition from Wrightspeed’s hybrid battery heavy-duty trucks and Nikola Motor’s hydrogen/natural gas powered semi trucks when it is launched. But it can easily defeat them, with sleek design, more range, lower maintaining cost, and most importantly the semi truck must carry am aggressive price tag.
