Elon Musk has finally unveiled the highly anticipated electric car, the Model 3 at an event in Los Angeles. Pricing of the car starts at $35,000 (roughly Rs. 23 lakhs), which is the most affordable car from the Tesla lineup yet. The Model 3 represents Tesla’s first effort to bring an electric car to the masses.
The Tesla Model 3 is positioned below the Model S though, it looks similar to Model S and shares several features of its more expensive sibling. Aiming at masses, the car will be hitting several markets, including India outside the US.
The base model accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in around 6 seconds, and some faster variants will be available with rear and all wheel drive options as well.
The Tesla Model 3 is claimed to have a range of over 200 miles which translates to 320 kilometers on a single charge.
The car will go into mass production in 2017 with deliveries set to late 2017, taking the brand’s vehicle production to 500,000 vehicles annually. When launched in India, the Model 3 will take on the likes of BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and the Mercedes C-Class.
