Honda India is showcasing the Accord Hybrid at the ongoing Auto Expo in Delhi. The premium sedan is set to make its comeback to the Indian market later this year. The new Accord is believed to strengthen the company’s sedan lineup that once rued the likes of Indian sedan market.

But since 2013, the sedan has been withdrawn from the Indian portfolio. The premium sedan market has now been in hands of Volkswagen, Skoda, and Toyota.

The Honda Accord has a strong foothold globally, and the one on display at the company’s pavilion is the 9th generation of the premium sedan. The facelift variant made its global debut recently and the US-spec of the model has made its way to India.

The powertrain is fulfilled by a 2-liter 16-valve i-VTEC petrol engine, which is good for 142bhp, but it also gets power from an electric motor under the hood which derives from the onboard litthioun-ion battery. So, the combined unit delivers 196bhp and 306Nm of torque and the transmission is through a all-wheel drive electronic CVT.

The hybrid sedan gets all the bells and whistles of the premium luxury and we expect the Indian bound Accord to go on sale in India sometime in the second half of 2016.

Katsushi Inoue, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd, said, “As we celebrate 20 years of our existence in India and building an affinity with over one million Indian customers, HCIL is adopting a new brand direction of ‘Advanced and Exciting’ and our products, dealerships and communication will be guided by this new brand direction. Year 2015 has been a very successful year for HCIL as we achieved our record sales of 2,00,000 units in a calendar year. The launch of exciting new models Honda BR-V and Accord in 2016 will help us accelerate our growth this year and also strengthen our brand in the country.”Honda Accord
